Presentation: The Lake Champlain Maritime Museum is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of Lake Champlain. The site at Basin Harbour, Vermont, hosts a museum, conservation laboratory and several full-sized working replicas of historic vessels to teach the history and archaeology of Lake Champlain.

Activity 1: Time capsules beneath the waves: the remarkable world of Underwater Archaeology

Date: Saturday, August 8, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Admission fee: (Museum admission) Adults: $8 Seniors: (60 and over): $7  
Students (5 to 17): $5 Children (under 5): Free
Ferry tariffs will be posted on site

Description: Experience an exciting day at the museum with its archaeological exhibits, conservation laboratory and special Small Watercraft Show, with the option of taking a ferry over to Westport for the Westport Heritage Festival, where the Lois McClure and the gunboat Philadelphia II will be available for public boarding. Underwater archaeologists Art Cohn and Jean Belisle will be on hand to hold special scheduled discussions on underwater archaeology in the region and the remarkable finds in Lake Champlain. Don’t miss the presentation “See and hear the extraordinary story of the exploded cannon” and the Valcourt Island exhibit. Bring a picnic lunch or enjoy the fare at the local restaurant.

Description: Take in the Small Watercraft Show and watch the exciting Challenge Race, involving rowing, paddling and kayaking, that operates out of the museum.  The museum with its archaeological exhibits and conservation laboratory will be open to the public.
