Presentation: The Battle of Plattsburgh Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to operating the Battle of Plattsburgh Interpretive Center and War of 1812 Museum. We collect, preserve and maintain appropriate artifacts and undertake an educational effort to publicize the significance of the Battle of Plattsburgh (September 11, 1814) in the War of 1812.
Activity 1: Talk “The Archaeological Importance of Pike’s Cantonment ” with Keith Herkalo

Description: Keith Herkalo will explore the research of Pike’s Cantonment. In 1994, 194 years after Zebulon Pike’s troops survived a northern winter, the U.S. Army Construction engineering Research Laboratory concluded its survey of the Cantonment and assigned a national register eligibility recommendation. The artifacts and fireplace foundations could provide insight into life for the encampment’s inhabitants and their cantonment.

Activity 2: Talk “Rediscover the HMS Confiance Anchor” with William Van Sockum

Dates: Saturdays, August 8 and 15, 10:30 and 1:00 p.m.
Activity length: 1 hour
Admission fee: Free

Description: In 1998, after remaining hidden in the depths of Cumberland Bay for 184 years, the lost anchor of the British Flagship Confiance, shot off the vessel in the naval engagement of September 11, 1814, was raised. William Van Sockum will speak to the anchor’s location, raison, and conservation.
