Presentation: The Parc national d’Oka is a park dedicated to protecting natural and cultural resources and ensuring access to the natural environment through outdoor activities that are compatible with a conservation mission. The 23.7-km² park is located in Oka, in the Laurentide region, and borders Lake des Deux Montagnes for several kilometres. This land is endowed with a diversity of plant and animal species, a range of natural environments and a number of historic and cultural sites.

Activity 1: The apprentice archaeologist: digging the past!

Dates: Sundays, August 2, 9, 16 and 23, 8:30 a.m.
Activity length: 4 hours
Admission fee: Adults: $9.75 Children (6 to 17): $4.88 (Reservations required)

Description: Whether you are an archaeology buff or just plain curious, come and uncover a piece of history! Take part in a real archaeological dig. Find out how archaeologists work and how they manage to discover buried secrets. You will take part in retrieving objects that testify to our past, and in broadening knowledge of historic places in the Parc national d’Oka.

Activity 2: Living in the year “zero”

Dates: Tuesdays, August 4, 11 and 18, 10:30 a.m.
Activity length: 1 hour 15 minutes
Admission fee: Free

Meeting place: On the beach, near the nautical rental site

Description: Archaeological finds indicate that Amerindians camped in Parc National d’Oka around the year zero. Come and piece together their way of life based on these discoveries. Learn how to fish with a net and hunt with a spear and how to fashion clay pots.
