Presentation: The Baronnie archaeological park serves to inform, protect and develop the site where this 300-year-old city was founded and where the archaeological potential is especially high. The archaeological park is located within Longueuil’s heritage site, a historic district of great interest with many heritage buildings and interpretation centres focusing on the history of Longueuil and its religious heritage. The Baronnie park is considered the birthplace of Longueuil.

Activity 1: Exhibition “The beginnings of Longueuil”

Activity 2: Take a heritage trip on the Chambly road

Meeting point: Baronnie park, at the intersection of Saint-Charles Street East and Saint-Antoine Street, Borough of Vieux-Longueuil

Description: Opened in 1665, the Chambly road was designed to connect Montreal to the chain of forts on the Richelieu River. At first a military road, it became a major settlement route. Historical features are still hidden all along its length. Activity to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the passage of Samuel de Champlain on the Richelieu River. Organized by the Marigot Historical and Cultural Society.

Activity 6: Saint-Antoine-de-Padoue Cathedral Museum

Description: Discover more than 135 religious articles forming part of the museum’s collection. Come and visit this extraordinary exhibit that showcases certain articles dating back to the beginning of the Saint-Antoine-de-Padoue parish, inaugurated in 1698. Activity accessible for the handicapped.

Activity 8: Marie-Rose Durocher Museum

Place: 80, Saint-Charles Street East, Longueuil

Description: Visit of a large collection of paintings and items dating back to the first half of the 19th century. The museum offers exhibits of a religious and historical nature which recount the life of Mother Marie-Rose Durocher, the founder of the order “Soeurs des Saints Noms de Jésus et de Marie.” Activity accessible for the handicapped.

Activity 9: Marigot Historical and Cultural Society

Description: The Marigot Historical and Cultural Society is located in the former land registration office, a building erected in 1882 according to plans designed by Maurice Perrault, architect, mayor of Longueuil from 1898 to 1902, and member of the Quebec provincial parliament from 1900 to 1909. The Marigot Historical and Cultural Society has more than 17 000 photographs, nearly 10 000 of which are indexed in a database.
