Presentation: Created in 1983, the Société d’art et d’histoire de Beauport is a non-profit organization that seeks to promote arts and artists, as well as local and regional history in Beauport. The Society is commissioned by Quebec City to manage a historical interpretation centre (Maison Girardin) and an art and history exhibit program at the Étienne-Parent Library (Jean Paul-Lemieux Exhibit Room).

Activity: Commemoration of the Battle of Montmorency

Date: Sunday, August 2, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Activity length: 7 hours, historical animation is scheduled between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Admission fee: Free

Description: On July 31 1759, French troops stationed on Montmorency heights, on the west side of the Montmorency River, were attacked by the British army, which was forced to retreat after incurring heavy losses. The activity commemorates this event, the last French victory before the capture of Quebec. A commemorative mass, a ceremony and historical animation, including a historical commentary, are the principal highlights on the program.
